Week 6
I can drive now, it hurts but it is nice to have some degree of freedom. Other than that things continue to go well, went back to the gym for the first time yesterday and rode the bike for awhile and while I was tired I was not sore. Happy New Year all. |

Day 24 How am I doing ? Well I am losing my cane around the house if that tells you anything. I just found it by the laundry where I had left last night. Oops -- trying to still use it, but it is hard to remember sometimes. Took the good ol walker out for a spin in the snow this morning. If you go back and forth it looks like you are making tracks in the fresh powder. Although I use the cane around the house, the walker still works best for the long walks.

Day 21 -- Let it snow` Greetings from snowy Denver. I am trying not to let the 6" - 8" inches of the white stuff outside slow me down, but it is getting in the way of my walks. Everything continues to go well, I switched to a cane on Sunday for most of my walking and I have pretty much given up on the narcotic pain meds. Compared to what I was dealing with before the surgery, the discomfort I feel from time to time is a walk in the park. I still usually take a nap most afternoons, which is a definite plus and I get pretty tired by the end of the day, nap or no nap. There have been a lot of 9pm bedtimes for the last week and half.
Still doing my exercises and getting stronger each day and all in all very very happy with the whole affair.
All my best.

Day 12 -- Back in Denver
Saturday, 12/1 -- arrived back in Denver this morning to big hugs from very happy little boys. Sort of tired now, but all in all doing great and still getting stronger each day. Give a call now that we are home and I will catch you up. I have about 4 weeks more of physical therapy and being careful about what I do with my body and then I should almost ready to assume a totally new life. It is really awesome how much this surgery opens up for me on the horizon. Thanks for all the love and support, our friends in Nashville were great and I never could have gotten better so fast without the wonderful care that AB has provided over the last two weeks. What is really hard now, is that even though I am OK, I still cannot really do awhole lot, so getting us home today involved a lot of work. But we are home in Denver and there are big smiles all around. R~ |

Day 8
One day at a time. Each day I am getting stronger and feeling better. We are both anxious to get back home and see our little boys, Saturday still seems like a long way aay. But the Hip is doing great, eah day I am able to do a little bit more and each day the sweilling and tightness goes down. Stlll focused on simple execercises to get the muscles around the hip stronger and walking, lots of walking. OK, maybe for normal folks not lots for waking, but for me it is a lot of walking. R~ |

Day 6 Day 6 -- I write this before I have my first bout of physical therapy this morning, so I am hesitant to be too bold in my exclamations of how well everything is going. But we have been safely settled at our friend Beth’s house since Friday and I seem to be getting stronger each day. I am able to walk with the assistance of my walker that is right I have a little aluminum four on the flour walker. I had thought that I would get lower arm crutches. But for whatever reason Vandy no longer supports use of lower arm crutches and there was no way I was using the under the arm variety they tried to provide. So I am a walker guy. It looks like I will only need it through this week and then for awhile in Colorado before switching to a cane for a good period of time, just for stability and safety. I am able to walk down the street a couple of times a day, I have had a small series of exercises that I have been doing over the weekend. Our friends here in Nashville have been wonderful, as crazy as it sound we went to friends houses for dinner on both Friday and Saturday night and Beth had dinner here last night. I am not the greatest company, but it is nice to get out for awhile and for AB to see her dear friends who were so supportive during the last year. Plus our friends are all really good cooks. I watched a lot of football over the last four days, a lot.. This week will be hectic with PT attempts to get some work done and all the other stuff that will go on. But I continue to appreciate all the love and support, Thanks… The Boys are thriving in Denver; their Granny took them to both the Denver Art Museum and the Natural History Museum this weekend. ---Survived my first session of PT and we are at a Music Row Coffee House so I can get this posted. |

On the Road to Recovery
Friday night ~ on the road to recovery, Had the surgery on Tuesday, they tell me it took about 3 1/2 hours. Woke up in recovery room and then got sent to Xrays before getting to my room where my wonderful spouse was waitng for me at about 6pm. The first night was rough but each day gets better. I was up walking on Tuesday Morning. With the Bham hip it turns out I have very little restrictions. So whatever I can stand my new parts can take. Save for throwing my leg back and out. Dr. Shinar was very postive about the surgery and it seems like it went very well. We are out of the Hospital and will be in Nashville for the next 8 days. Sorry for the delays in getting an update, we did not have access in the Hospital and the connection at the house we are staying at is out. So it was tough for AB to find an avenue to get something posted. We have some Pics of my revovery, sorry no surgery pics I could not deal with the images. Thanks for all the love and support. Ross PS: AB says already I do not limp like I did before. !!!!! |

Greetings and Happy Thanksgiving. NOV 19, 2007 OK, so the old guy gets a Live Journal. I figure this is the best way to keep people are interested up to date on my surgery and rehabilitation. We will see how it goes, with luck I will be able to drag AB into doing some posting for me over the next couple of weeks. R~ |
